Mediapro’s Laura Fernández Espeso Exits After Year In Charge

Laura Fernández Espeso has exited Spanish production giant Mediapro after nearly a year as General Director.

Less than year since she was promoted from CEO of The Mediapro Studio, Espeso is leaving by mutual agreement as part of a management restructure that will see former Movistar Plus+ chief Sergio Oslé become President and Carlos Nuñez CEO on January 1, 2026.

Espeso has already stepped down. A Mediapro spokeswoman confirmed the news, which was first reported by local title ECD.

Her exit follows those of Mediapro co-founder Tatxo Benet in October, and Jaume Roures, the other co-founder two years ago. Mediapro is owned by Hong Kong-based Southwind, which voted to have Roures exit in 2023.

Espeso may have only been General Director for a year, but she has spent over 15 at Mediapro and its predecessors in total, rising from an initial role as Director of International Development and Director of the Cinema Division at what was then Globomedia in 2009. Mediapro acquired Globomedia outright in 2015, at which point she earned a promotion, which was followed by two more.

During her time running production and then the wider group, Mediapro created series such as HBO Max thriller series The Head and films such as El 47 and Perros.

She also oversaw the launch of The Mediapro Studio USA, led by J.C. Acosta. The unit launched in 2024 with a slate including projects from the likes of John Turturro (Is There No Place on Earth for Me?), Melissa Leo (Mother Wolf), Evan Katz (Witness 36) and Juan José Campanella. Mediapro also opened a huge production facility in Yonkers, New York, in November.
