Mets haven’t come close to Phillies’ deadline grand slam — and it has cost them dearly

PHILADELPHIA — Coincidentally, both the Phillies and Mets prioritized a center fielder and big bullpen upgrades at the deadline. While the Phillies hit a figurative grand slam with their pickups, the Mets aren’t coming close to that sort of success with theirs.

The Phillies’ superb deadline work might not be the biggest difference in a division race that looks all but over now after their 1-0 win over the Mets here Monday night. And it certainly wasn’t the only difference in this game that altered the story of a rivalry dominated recently by the Mets.

However, the contrast was on full display. The Phillies pickups continued to kill it while the Mets additions continued to struggle mightily.

The Phillies went 3-for-3 with their adds Monday.
