Mets predicted to sign Phillies outfielder after career year

The New York Mets’ outfield currently has Juan Soto as the only proven and reliable option. Tyrone Taylor and Carson Benge would be the other two expected starters if the season were to start today.

By trading away Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil, the Mets lost two solid options for their outfield. They need to address that need, and there are still free agents who can help them. Obviously, Kyle Tucker and Cody Bellinger are on the market, but there are cheaper alternatives as well, if the Mets can land one of the big fish.

Harrison Bader was traded from the Minnesota Twins to the Philadelphia Phillies last season. He had a career year at the plate and is a former Gold Glove Award winner. He could be a great addition to the Mets. SNY’s Anthony McCarron predicted the Mets would sign him to a deal this winter.

Bader slashed .277/.347/.449 last seaosn. He set career highs in home runs and OPS. With the Phillies, he had a .824 OPS in 50 games. His bat would be a clear upgrade to Taylor, and the Mets could afford to let Benge compete for the final outfield spot.

Bader ranked in the 92nd percentile for outs above average last season. He is a great defender, which is something the Mets are emphasizing this winter. He fits the mold for what David Stearns is looking for, and he would be much cheaper than Bellinger or Tucker.
