Miami’s Rueben Bain Jr. sparks social media uproar with fiery Mike Elko comments
There was plenty of drama leading up to Saturday’s clash between the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes and the No. 7 Texas A&M Aggies, much of it centered on subtle comments the Aggies made about Miami’s Reuben Bain Jr., who is currently projected as a first-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Aggies offensive lineman Trey Zuhn III was asked earlier this week, “What are the keys to stopping Reuben Bain, who is a top pick in the draft?”
“I don’t think he’ll be a threat that we have to worry about… we’ll be able to handle him,” Zuhn responded.

Bain Jr. clearly took the comment personally, and while he didn’t respond publicly during the week, his performance in Miami’s 10–3 win spoke volumes. He finished the game with five tackles (four solo), three sacks, four tackles for loss, and even blocked one of Texas A&M’s field goals.
After the game, during an Instagram Live video shared by one of his Miami teammates, Bain Jr. didn’t hold back. He publicly called out Aggies head coach Mike Elko and made several other jabs at the team, sparking a frenzy on social media.
“They whole O-line some [expletive],” Bain said. “[Expletive] you Mike Elko, [expletive] 60… [expletive] Texas A&M.”
“Classy response. OSU gonna make this emotional boy cry,” a fan said.
Someone else added, “I like Bain a lot, think he’s a great player but that was not a good look.”
Another person wrote, “keep that same energy for osu lol.”
“this that type of attitude you need from a franchise edge rusher man,” a fan shared.
One more fan commented, “Probably wasn’t a good idea to trigger this man.”
The Hurricanes will now face the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes on Dec. 31 at 7:30 p.m. ET at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with the winner claiming the Cotton Bowl and a spot in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
