Mick Fleetwood Joins USC Marching Band At Halftime For Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Tusk’
Mick Fleetwood put on a helmet and took the field for USC on Saturday.
No, he didn’t enter the game as the university football team blasted Northwestern 38-17 in a contest nationally-televised on Fox. The Fleetwood Mac drummer, co-founder and leader is an athletic-looking 6’5″, but he’s also 78 years old.
Instead, the Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer joined the school’s marching band for a rendition of his Fleetwood Mac’s drum heavy, mostly-instrumental 1979 song “Tusk.” The two have a long history together with the song.
The track was originally recorded (in part) at Dodger Stadium with 112 members of the university’s band. It also joined Fleetwood Mac onstage at The Forum to perform the song shortly after “Tusk” was released. That performance included baton twirlers and horses galloping through the crowd. The Trojan Band later re-teamed with Fleetwood Mac for a rendition of “Tusk” on its 1997 live album, The Dance.
Saturday night, close to three-decades later, Fleetwood donned a golden Corinthian helmet and joined this year’s edition of the Trojan Band at halftime to play the tune. You can watch it below.
