New Shows & Movies To Watch This Weekend: ‘Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man!’ on HBO Max and More

Mel Brooks has been entertaining generations for the better part of a century, and the iconic entertainer is the subject of a two-part documentary on HBO Max that we can’t wait to watch this weekend. Also arriving to streaming this weekend is Canada Shore, a new beachy reality show about a group of ten people living in a house by the beach (and occasionally visited by Snooki herself!), that series dropped on Paramount+ on Thursday. And this Friday, tune in to Netflix when they host Skyscraper Live, a real-time event featuring rock climber Alex Honnold scaling Taipei 101. If you thought that scene with Tom Cruise scaling the Burj Khalifa in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was impressive, Honnold’s going to do it for real, with no safety harness, just the sheer strength of his fingertips.

Not sure which new releases to check out? Let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.

New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man!, Skyscraper Live, Canada Shore + More

This week’s must-watch list includes a documentary about a living legend, a death-defying livestream, and a new entry in an old reality TV franchise. On HBO Max, Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man! offers a look at the comedian’s life and legacy. On Netflix, rock climber Alex Honnold performs a feat of strength as he attempts to scale one of the tallest buildings in the world live on camera in Skyscraper Live, and on Paramount+, you can tune in to Canada Shore, which will probably be the most polite spinoff of Jersey Shore yet.

Alex Honnold, star of the rock climbing documentary Free Solo, is renowned for his ability to scale some of the most difficult surfaces in the world, including the vertical face of Yosemite’s El Capitan, with no ropes or other safety harnesses. On January 23 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, Honnold will attempt to scale Taipei 101, one of the tallest buildings in the world, with no ropes, and it will all stream live in real time. Our palms will sweat so his don’t have to. (You can catch Free Solo on Netflix now, too, if you want to see Honnold in action before tuning into the live event.)

Mel Brooks is one of the most legendary comedians ever, and he’s still kicking at 99 years old. The new two-part HBO Max documentary Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man!, directed by Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio, takes a look at his career and its legacy and features interviews with Brooks and many of the comedians and filmmakers he inspired, including Jerry Seinfeld, Conan O’Brien and Rob Reiner. Both parts are now available to stream on HBO Max.

New on Paramount+ January 22: Canada Shore

Canada Shore marks the first-ever Canadian edition of MTV’s hit “Shore” franchise that all started with Jersey Shore. The new iteration features 10 young Canadians living it up on the coast of Kelowna, British Columbia. Two episodes are available this week, and new episodes will air weekly after that. And lest you think that Snooki is the only reason to watch one of these shows, the good news is, she’ll be popping in to say hi to the Canadian cast as a guest star over several episodes.
