ox Office: ‘The Odyssey’ Crosses $1B, Will Be Christopher Nolan’s Highest


This year’s embarrassment of riches at the global box office continues, for we can tell you today that Universal’s Christopher Nolan feature take of Homer’s The Odyssey has crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office.

The pic will soon become the 2x Oscar winner’s highest grossing movie ever, overtaking the $1.085 billion-grossing Dark Knight Rises.

Following Sony/Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day earlier this week which became the second-fastest to the billion mark worldwide after Avengers: Endgame, Odyssey is the fifth tentpole to cross $1 billion at the 2026 a list that also includes Toy Story 5, Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael. Spider-Man: Brand New Day with more than $1.1B is currently the highest grossing pic of the calendar year.

Broken out, Odyssey has minted $429.7M domestic and $570.3M overseas. The movie opened in Korea on Wednesday and will land in China on Aug. 14 followed by Japan on Sept. 11. Imax auditoriums are at a near sell out in key box office markets like LA & NYC through October, we hear. This weekend, Odyssey will co-share Imax hubs with Brand New Day stateside.

The Odyssey‘s highest grossing territories as of Monday were UK with more than $67M, France with $47M, Italy with more than $42M, Germany north of $31M, Australia with $28M, Mexico with $26M, and Spain with $24M.

Combined, Brand New Day and Odyssey counted $2.1 billion at the global box office. They will soon steamroll the combined $2.4 billion global gross of Barbenheimer in 2023 (broken that was $1.44B for Barbie and $975.8M for Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

Odyssey is now the 65th movie to cross $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
