Police search for suspect after driver hits cyclist, kids in Austin crash


AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said it was searching for a suspect related to a crash investigation after the driver failed to stop and render aid after hitting a cyclist and two children.

According to APD, the crash occurred Wednesday around 8:25 a.m. near the intersection of West Slaughter Lane & Escarpment Boulevard. The incident was captured on video and can be viewed here.

APD said the suspect vehicle ran a red light and hit a bicycle ridden by an adult man, a 4-year-old and a 3-year-old. The crash involved serious bodily injury.

Following the crash, police said the suspect continued driving westbound on West Slaughter Lane.

Police described the vehicle as a small, light colored 4-door SUV or hatchback—possibly a Mazda 5.

Anyone with information related to the crash was asked to submit a tip anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or calling 512-472-8477. APD said a reward of up to $1,000 could be available for any information that leads to an arrest.
