Prince Harry Says Daily Mail Made Meghan Markle’s Life A “Misery” As He Becomes Visibly Emotional In Court
The publisher of The Daily Mail “made my wife’s life an absolute misery,” according to Prince Harry giving evidence today for the first time in his landmark privacy case.
In the past few minutes, Harry was reported by BBC News to have made the claim as he became visibly emotional on the witness stand.
The worst part of sitting up there in the witness box, he was reported to have said, is that Associated Newspapers Limited, which publishes The Daily Mail, “made my wife’s life an absolute misery.”
Harry was of course referring to his spouse Meghan Markle. The pair left the UK several years ago to live in L.A. and Harry has since taken multiple legal actions against the British press.
This trial, which started two days ago, is set to last several weeks and today is Harry’s first day giving evidence. Others on the docket alongside him in the privacy case include Liz Hurley, Elton John, his husband David Furnish and campaigner Doreen Lawrence. The group say they are the “victims of abhorrent criminal activity and gross breaches of privacy” including the hiring of private investigators. Associated Newspapers has said the claims are “preposterous smears which appear to be nothing more than a pre-planned and orchestrated attempt to drag the Mail titles into the phone hacking scandal concerning articles up to 30 years old.”
Earlier today, Harry’s witness statement was read out in which he said the press had driven him to “drugs and drinking to sell more of their papers.”
