QB who beat out Diego Pavia in camp makes Ravens’ 53-man roster
The Baltimore Ravens took a chance on Diego Pavia, a finalist for the 2025 Heisman Trophy who went undrafted this spring, signing the former Vanderbilt quarterback to a three-year contract in April.
The Ravens wound up cutting Pavia on July 23 in a corresponding move to sign center Ethan Pocic. After being released by Baltimore, Pavia remained unsigned through the remainder of training camp and the preseason.
In addition to Pavia, the Ravens brought in undrafted rookie free agent Joe Fagnano this spring to try out at quarterback. Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Fagnano made Baltimore’s initial 53-man roster on Sunday.

“Ravens QB Joe Fagnano is making Baltimore’s initial 53-man roster, per source,” Fowler posted on X. “Fagnano had quite the preseason as a passer, now sticks around.”
Fagnano, 25, ended his college career at UConn. He went 19 of 27 passing for 162 yards and one touchdown in the Ravens’ preseason finale against the Washington Commanders on Friday night. He made an impressive preseason debut, going 22 of 28 passing for 224 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the Ravens’ 24-7 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Aug. 15.
During training camp, Fagnano said it was his goal to take advantage of whatever opportunities came his way during the preseason.
“I just take it one day at a time,” Fagnano said, via the Ravens. “Being an undrafted guy, opportunities may come, [or] they may not come, and I’m just looking to be ready for when they do. It doesn’t really matter who’s in the room. I’m just trying to control what I can control and focus on me and try to help this football team win games and do what I can.”
It’s fair to say he took advantage of every outing he had in the preseason.
Fagnano will join quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley on the 53-man roster.
