R.L. Stine’s ‘The Babysitter’ Gets Tubi Adaptation
With two R.L. Stine adaptations under its belt and another on the way, Tubi is dipping back into the vault for its next spooky title.
On Sunday, the streamer announced a live-action feature adaptation of Stine’s The Babysitter (1989-’95) book series, helmed by Trevor Calverley from a script by Pumpkinhead writer/director Jem Garrard, scheduled to premiere on Tubi in 2027.
In The Babysitter, desperate to earn enough money for a prestigious writing program, 16-year-old Jenny takes a babysitting job despite a prowler terrorizing girls across town. When threatening phone calls begin and a dangerous fugitive surfaces in town, Jenny grows suspicious of everyone around her as the danger begins closing in.
Produced by Blue Ice, executive producers are Lance Samuels, Joan Waricha, Jane Stine and Jem Garrard, with producers Dan Bernard, Yvonne Bernard, Tebogo Maila, Darren Cameron and Adam Friedlander.
The latest collaboration between Tubi and Stine comes after last year’s Pumpkinhead and the sequel that premiered this weekend on the streaming platform.
Last weekend, Tubi announced a feature adaptation of Stine’s “Afraid of Clowns” from his 1999 short story collection Nightmare Hour, also premiering in 2027.
In Afraid of Clowns, Frankie grows suspicious of Ringmaster Rollo and his troupe as their arrival in Redhaven (also the setting of Pumpkinhead) seems connected to a child who disappeared years earlier. When she becomes convinced her little brother could be next, Frankie has to get her friends on board before Rollo disappears with the clowns for good.
Written and directed by Garrard, the film stars Frankie Honey, Ava Ferrer, Azriel Dalman, Joe Moore and RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 8 winner Jimbo.
