Russell Brand Found Guilty of Rape, 3 Counts of Sexual Assault
Russell Brand’s legal battle has reached a conclusion.
On Nov. 5, a London court found the 51-year-old was convicted on one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault.
After deliberating for over eight hours, according to multiple outlets, the jury found Brand guilty of raping a fan in 2009 after meeting at one of his shows in London, of groping an MTV worker in 2004, kissing and groping another woman at her workplace in 2009 and of sexually assaulting another woman in 2009.
Brand—who had pleaded not guilty to all charges—was cleared of two separate counts of rape and one count of indecent assault.
The presiding judge Joel Bennathan, according to The New York Times, said he would sentence the Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor to “significant custodial time,” while also denying him bail.
British sentencing guidelines for rape, per the outlet, carry a maximum sentence of life in prison, while the average prison term for such a conviction is four to 19 years.
