Sean Gunn Is “Retired” From Rocket Raccoon Motion-Capture In ‘GOTG’
While Rocket Raccoon might be synonymous with the voice of Bradley Cooper, it’s Sean Gunn that’s pulled double-duty in the MCU franchise, providing motion-capture performance for the talking critter.
The Guardians of the Galaxy actor, who also plays Kraglin in the movies, recently discussed whether it “hurts after a while” to make himself small like a raccoon while filming in a green-screen leotard.
“Yes! Everyone thinks it’s my knees, but it’s really my feet and my ankles,” he explained on The Brandon Davis Show. “I’m in a catcher’s crouch, and I’m pivoting a lot on my points of contact with the ground. I’m doing a lot of pivoting in my ankles and feet. And over the years, I think it had a little bit of an effect on my physiology.”
Gunn added, “My knees are fine, but since I turned 50 a couple of years ago, I am retired from Rocket. Not that [Marvel has] called, but if they did, I don’t think I could do the motion reference for Rocket anymore. I’m too old.”
Although there have been no talks about a followup to 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Sean’s brother James Gunn has teased that he plans to bring more MCU stars over to the DCU with his position as position as DC Studios co-CEO with Peter Safran.

Sean has already made the DCU jump, appearing as villain Maxwell Lord in Superman (2025) and the Season 2 premiere episode of Peacemaker.
