Son Scores Again as LAFC Cruises Past Sporting KC
LAFC continued its impressive run of form on Saturday night, cruising to a 4-0 victory over Sporting Kansas City at BMO Stadium behind goals from Son Heung-min, Denis Bouanga and David Martínez.
The win extended Los Angeles’ unbeaten streak and strengthened its position in the race for the top spot in the Western Conference, while Sporting Kansas City remained rooted to the bottom of the standings after another difficult outing.
Son Scores Early to Set the Tone
Son wasted little time making an impact, opening the scoring in the fifth minute with a composed finish after LAFC launched a quick counterattack.
The South Korean international capitalized on a loose ball inside the penalty area before calmly beating the goalkeeper, marking his third consecutive match with a goal since returning from international duty. The strike continued his strong start to life in Los Angeles and gave the home side early control of the contest.
Bouanga and Martínez Extend LAFC’s Lead
LAFC doubled its advantage later in the first half through Denis Bouanga, who continued his excellent scoring form with a clinical finish.
Just before halftime, Bouanga turned provider, setting up David Martínez to make it 3-0 and effectively put the match beyond Sporting Kansas City’s reach before the break.
Bouanga completed his brace in the 85th minute after Tyler Boyd squared the ball into the box following a long pass from Ryan Porteous. The goal took Bouanga into double figures for the season, giving him 10 goals in 17 league appearances.
Lloris Records Another Clean Sheet
While LAFC’s attack dominated the headlines, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris enjoyed a relatively quiet evening.
The veteran French goalkeeper was called into action only once, making a single save to secure his league-leading 10th clean sheet of the MLS season. Sporting Kansas City struggled to create meaningful chances and did not register a shot on target until the 77th minute, highlighting LAFC’s defensive control throughout the match.
LAFC Keeps Pace in the Western Conference
The victory marked LAFC’s fourth straight win and lifted the club level on 33 points with Vancouver and San Jose at the top of the Western Conference, although both rivals still have games in hand.
The club has not tasted defeat since May and has built momentum with an attack that continues to produce consistently. Son and Bouanga have both found the net in each of LAFC’s last three matches, helping the team outscore opponents comfortably during that stretch.
Attention now turns to another crucial Western Conference clash as LAFC travels to face the Vancouver Whitecaps in a matchup that could have significant implications in the race for first place. Sporting Kansas City, meanwhile, will look to end its struggles when it hosts the Houston Dynamo in its next league fixture.
