Stop Being Naughty’: Man’s Final Words to Tiger Before Fatal Yorkshire Wildlife Park Attack

A man who entered a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in England reportedly said “stop being naughty” shortly before the animal fatally attacked him, according to eyewitness accounts.

The incident occurred on Saturday, Oct. 10, near Doncaster. South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the 37-year-old man died at the scene after being attacked by the tiger.

Authorities said emergency services were called at approximately 1:35 p.m. after reports that the man had entered the enclosure. The tiger, named Altai, was uninjured and remained inside its enclosure following the incident.

Witnesses Recall the Moments Before the Attack

Anthony Hunt, who was visiting the park with his girlfriend, Scarlet, told Sky News that they had been taking photographs of Altai when they noticed the animal’s attention shift toward a person inside the enclosure.

Hunt initially thought the tiger was reacting to food. However, he and his girlfriend soon realized that a man had entered the restricted area.

According to Hunt, the man appeared unaware of his surroundings. At one point, he reportedly lowered himself onto his hands and knees and looked toward the sky.

Hunt also recalled hearing people nearby warning the man about the danger. The reported remark, “stop being naughty,” stood out amid the confusion as visitors tried to understand what was happening.

Another eyewitness reportedly said the man had been dancing alone while wearing headphones shortly before entering the enclosure. People attempted to warn him, but they were unable to prevent him from entering the restricted area.

The eyewitness accounts offer details about the moments preceding the fatal encounter, but they do not establish whether the reported remark was the man’s final statement. Police have not publicly established why he entered the enclosure.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park Confirms Tiger Is Safe

Yorkshire Wildlife Park confirmed that Altai was safe following the incident and would not be euthanized.

The park’s emergency procedures were activated after the incident, and staff members were offered support following the ordeal. The attraction was closed on Monday, Oct. 12, as police continued their investigation.

Altai is an Amur tiger, also known as a Siberian tiger, an endangered subspecies. The animal is part of the park’s Land of the Tigers attraction, which opened in 2011 and allows visitors to observe the big cats from designated viewing areas designed to keep people separated from the wildlife.

Police Continue Investigation

South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the man’s family had been informed of his death and was receiving support from specialist officers. Authorities also urged the public not to share images or footage of the incident online because of the potential impact on the victim’s family and others affected by the tragedy.

Although eyewitnesses have described the man’s reported behavior before he entered the enclosure, police have not publicly confirmed the circumstances that led to his actions. His identity and motives should not be speculated about while the investigation remains ongoing.
