Strong magnitude 6 earthquake strikes off Hawaii
A strong magnitude six earthquake has hit Hawaii, with locals reporting shaking across Big Island and surrounding regions.
The quake struck late Friday local time roughly eight miles south of Honaunau-Napoopoo at a depth of 14 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
No tsunami was expected following the earthquake, the U.S. Tsunami Warning Centers said.
Reports of shaking quickly surfaced online. “I knew I felt that quake,” one person wrote on X. “I thought a boulder was rolling down the side of the mountain or something.”
This is a developing story. More to follow.
