Indeed, Richmond is mourning Crown and Anchor pub owner Mae Green (Annette Badland) following her death in the ninth episode of Ted Lasso season four.
Mae died in the Sept. 30 episode doing what she loved most: cheering on the Lady Greyhounds—the women’s soccer team at the center of the fourth installment—at an away match against Bristol City.
She spent her final hours with the players after Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) and Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) invited her to ride the team bus after she raised concerns about driving up solo. She even gave the women a pep talk ahead of the match, which they ultimately won.
“Growing up, all I wanted to do was be a footballer, but women weren’t allowed to play officially,” Mae said during the episode, though she admitted that she wouldn’t have been a great player. “But you girls are different. You’re talented. You belong on that pitch. I love to see it. So go out there and make an old lady happy. And beat the f–king s–t out of them!”
