Tesla creating 'ecological paradise' by Gigafactory
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Tesla has plans to create an “ecological paradise” by its Gigafactory (GFTX) in Travis County, according to a Tesla report provided to Travis County.
Dubbed the “GFTX Riverfront,” the area will consist of constructed treatment ponds, walking and biking trails, community engagement stations and more. This space aims to serve over 70,000 residents around GFTX, the documents said.
The report said 53 areas of expanded wetland will be implemented to mitigate flooding risks and rain gardens will be created to cleanse surface runoff.
There are also goals to expand and improve the biodiversity in that region. This aims to be done through eight proposed wildlife corridors and a 14.5-mile onsite bioswale.
Telsa said it also has plans to incorporate recreational spaces for people to use in the GFTX Riverfront. This includes 290 acres of waterfront green space open to local communities and 31.5 acres of outdoor workplace open to all Tesla employees.
