The Creative Spots Where Matthew Rhys, Sheryl Lee Ralph and More Emmy Winners Stash Their Trophies
Ever the, uh, diplomat, Matthew Rhys made a declaration after he nabbed his first Emmy back in 2018.
Though he was thrilled to notch a victory for his turn as one-half of a set of married spies on FX’s The Americans he wished he wasn’t celebrating alone.
“I just feel bad,” he said on a May episode of Obsessed: The Podcast, noting that Keri Russell, his partner onscreen and IRL, left the ceremony empty handed. “Not to take away anything from Claire Foy from The Crown because she was incredible in that. I just wish Keri got it because she was so incredible.”
So, he went underground with his prize.
“It’s in the basement,” he revealed to CNN after the 2026 ceremony Sept. 14, “because I kind of said, when Keri wins one, I’ll take mine out.”
It’s the sort of sweet gesture that serves as one of the not-so-top-secret tenets of their decade-plus romance.
