‘The Dog Stars’ Trailer: Jacob Elordi & Josh Brolin Navigate Post-Apocalyptic Denver And ‘Survivors’

The final trailer for the Ridley Scott-directed film adaptation of Peter Heller’s The Dog Stars is here.

The dystopian movie arrives in theaters August 28.

In the clip, Jacob Elordi’s pilot Hig reminisces about before the world ended, when he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life like kissing his wife and playing with his dog.

“The world that was doesn’t exist,” Josh Brolin’s voice chimes in over a shot of a bunch of wild dogs running around in front of Denver City Hall. “Here it’s just us, trying to hold onto what was.”

Brolin plays Bangley, a military survivalist who has established a homestead to survive the end of the world.

Heller’s thriller novel tells a story of a post-apocalyptic community in which survival is an instinct, but humanity is a choice. The only thing left to fear is “survivors” who look like a mix of zombies and cordyceps-infected clickers in The Last of Us. Dark veins pop out of their faces, signaling some kind of infection, reminiscent of the flare in The Maze Runner movies. Weapons, guns, night vision goggles and more are must-have tools. Brolin’s character even wears dark paint on his face to hide in the dark at one point.

After he hears a voice on the radio, Hig finds Margaret Qualley’s Cima. An immediate level of trust is established. But Guy Pearce’s character doesn’t trust Hig because “he’s an unknown” and “we have rules about how to deal with unknowns.”

Benedict Wong and Allison Janney also star in the film.

The screenplay is by Mark L. Smith, based upon Heller’s novel. Producers are Ridley Scott, p.g.a., Michael Pruss, p.g.a., Mark L. Smith, and Cliff Roberts, p.g.a., with Lily Brooks-Dalton, Brandon Scott Smith, Peter Heller, Aidan Elliott serving as executive producers.
