‘The God Of The Woods’ TV Series Sets Directors (EXCLUSIVE)
EXCLUSIVE: Netflix has announced that Liz Hannah, co-creator and co-showrunner of Netflix’s The God of the Woods, will direct on the show alongside Cory Finley, Meera Menon and Quyen Tran. Each will tackle two episodes of the eight-episode drama, based on the New York Times bestselling novel from co-creator/co-showrunner Liz Moore.
Starring Maya Hawke and Kerry Condon, The God of the Woods is a multi-generational series set in the Adirondacks that explores the Van Laar family’s dark secrets, class tensions, and the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of 13-year-old Barbara Van Laar from her family’s summer camp — in the wake of an earlier family tragedy that may be related. As the past and present collide, the Van Laars’ wealth and influence unravel, revealing the damaging consequences of privilege and the abuse of power.
Hawke plays Judy Luptack, a smart and quietly determined investigator — the first woman one in the male-dominated Bureau of Criminal Investigation, who gets assigned to the case of Barbara’s disappearance.
Condon, meanwhile, plays Alice Van Laar, mother of the missing 13-year-old.
Finley, a director with credits like Thoroughbreds and Bad Education, will helm the show’s first two episodes. Tran (Maid, The Pitt) will tackle 103 & 104, with Hannah (The Girl from Plainville) taking 105 & 106, and Menon (For All of Mankind, Ms. Marvel) helming the final two.
In addition to Hannah and Moore, exec producers on The God of the Woods include Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty for Original Film. Hailing from Sony Pictures Television, the show also stars Damon Gupton, Ella Rubin, Susannah Perkins, Benjamin Walker, Nell Fisher and Autumn Molina, plus Tracy Letts, John Gallagher Jr., Lola Kirke and Colton Ryan.
