Twins DFA 7-year MLB veteran catcher

The Minnesota Twins are moving on from one of their catchers as they fight for a playoff spot in the American League Central.

According to The Athletic’s Dan Hayes, the Twins have designated catcher Alex Jackson for assignment to get their roster down to 26 players.

Before being designated for assignment, Jackson was having a pretty solid year for the Twins. In 29 games with the AL Central club this campaign, the 6-foot-1 catcher posted one home run, five RBI, 20 hits, and a .303 batting average. With numbers like these, he has been hitting pretty well at the plate. Yet, this was not enough for him to avoid being designated for assignment.

Teams looking for more depth at the catcher position could consider taking a flier on Jackson. He has a decent amount of MLB experience and could be a good extra catcher for another club to have around.

In 189 career MLB games over seven seasons split between the Atlanta Braves, Miami Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles, and Twins, Jackson has posted 12 home runs, 37 RBI, and a .174 batting average.
