UTA Signs ‘The Black Phone’s Madeleine McGraw
EXCLUSIVE: Madeleine McGraw, one of the breakout stars of Universal and Blumhouse’s supernatural horror franchise The Black Phone, has signed with UTA for representation in all areas.
Directed by Scott Derrickson from scripts written with C. Robert Cargill, The Black Phone films adapt the short story by Joe Hill from his collection 20th Century Ghosts. In the first film, McGraw is introduced as Gwen Shaw, who after her teen brother (Mason Thames) is abducted by a masked serial killer (Ethan Hawke), uses psychic dreams to help guide him to safety — alongside the killer’s past victims, who connect with the boy through a disconnected phone. Released this year, The Black Phone 2 is set years later, watching as trauma and visions resurface, as Gwen and her brother confront a new chapter of the same nightmare with the killer known as the Grabber.
The Black Phone grossed over $161M worldwide, with The Black Phone 2 taking in over $132M. Alongside 18-year-old Thames, McGraw has garnered critical acclaim for her performance, which earned her the Fangoria Chainsaw Award for Best Supporting Performance, along with a Saturn Award nomination. She was also recently honored with the Rising Star Award at CinemaCon 2025.
In addition to The Black Phone franchise, McGraw’s film credits include Pacific Rim: Uprising, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and American Sniper, as well as voicing Bonnie in Toy Story 4. In television, she has been a series regular on Outcast and Disney Channel’s Secrets of Sulphur Springs.
McGraw continues to be represented by The Burstein Company, Coast to Coast, and Schreck Rose Dapello.
