‘Who Are Those Cuties?’ Dr Rachel Danis’ Heartbreaking Moment With Patrick Clancy When He Said His Kids Had Died

Rachel Danis had no idea what she was about to hear when she pointed to the three children pictured on Patrick Clancy’s phone during their first coffee date. “Who are those cuties?” Danis recalled asking.

The deeply personal moment was revealed Sunday, Sept. 20, during Clancy and Danis’ first joint television interview on CBS’ 60 Minutes, as the couple discussed grief as they are rebuilding their lives together.

How Rachel Danis Learned About Patrick Clancy’s Children

Danis said she met Clancy in January 2024 through a New York running club. They later went for coffee, where she noticed a photograph of children on his phone as he was using it to pay.

“Pat pulled out his phone to pay, and I noticed this adorable photo of children as the wallpaper,” Danis said. “And I just asked, ‘Who are those cuties?'”

Clancy told her, “Those are my kids.” Danis then asked whether they lived in Massachusetts. That was when Clancy told her they had died. The children were Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. They died after being attacked at the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home on Jan. 24, 2023. Callan survived for four days before dying at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Danis’ Role In Patrick Clancy’s Grief

Danis said she knows she cannot undo the loss but wants to help Clancy. “I know I can’t bring his kids back,” Danis said during the 60 Minutes interview. “But if I can honor them and allow Pat to grieve but also just continue to honor them in the present, I guess that’s all I can do.”

The couple married in April 2026, mentioning in the interview about starting a family. Clancy said he wants their future child to know about Cora, Dawson and Callan. “I can’t wait to tell them about their brothers and sister,” he said.

Lindsay Clancy Case Remains Unresolved

The interview comes weeks after the murder trial of Clancy’s former wife, Lindsay Clancy, ended in a mistrial. A Plymouth County Superior Court jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict on Sept. 4 after deliberating over whether Lindsay Clancy was criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children. Her defense argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and was not criminally responsible. She remains at Tewksbury Hospital while the case remains unresolved.

A Sept. 29 court hearing is expected to address the next steps, including a defense effort to prevent a retrial. Prosecutors have not yet made a final decision on whether they will seek another trial.
