Who Was Allison Rahmani? Driver Who Died after Crashing Her SUV into Long Island Swimming Pool Was Beloved Jewish Teacher and Mom of Four

The woman who died after her SUV plunged into a backyard swimming pool on Long Island has been identified as a mother of four and a teacher at a local Jewish school. Allison Rahmani, 40, was driving when she lost control of her vehicle, sending it into the swimming pool at her home in Hewlett, Nassau County, on Friday, according to JNS.

Rahmani called for help after the crash, but she died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital, a source close to her family told the outlet. Rahmani was a mother of four who worked as a teacher and math coordinator at the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway.

Tragic and Unexpected Death

Rahmani’s death was announced by Irving Place Minyan. Her husband, Matthew, serves as president of the Irving Place Minyan, a Modern Orthodox synagogue in Woodmere. Police said Rahmani hit a tree and a parked vehicle before her SUV ended up in the swimming pool, according to the New York Post.

First responders performed life-saving measures before Rahmani was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, a Nassau County Police Department spokesperson told the outlet.

Friends, colleagues and others who knew the teacher shared emotional tributes to her on Facebook. “So sad… prayers for strength and courage for her husband, children and family and loved ones at this difficult time. May her memory be a blessing,” one person wrote.

“May she rest in peace and her family be comforted among all the mourners of Zion. May her memory always be a source of comfort and bring a smile to their eyes and lips,” another person wrote.

A third person added: “Sending condolences and strength to her beautiful family during this incredibly sad time in their lives.”

Community Schocked

The Hebrew Academy of Five Towns is a Jewish day school serving children from early childhood through high school. Rahmani was from Hewlett, one of the main communities that make up the Five Towns, an unofficial collection of neighborhoods along Long Island’s South Shore.

The other four communities that make up the Five Towns are Lawrence, Cedarhurst, Woodmere and Inwood.

Hewlett is located about 26 miles from Manhattan, New York City.
