Who Were Charles Romer and Jennifer Luzzi? High-Profile Business Owners Killed in Boat Crash After Vessel Hit Land And Went Airborne

Two prominent business owners were killed in a devastating boating accident after their vessel became airborne during a high-speed crash. Charles “Chip” Romer, 65, and Jennifer Luzzi, 59, died Saturday evening when their boat crashed into a large peninsula on Lake Havasu, a sprawling reservoir along the Colorado River on the Arizona-California border.

The 36-foot Douglas Marine boat was thrown into the air by the impact before landing upside down at a boat-in campsite north of Cattail Cove State Park, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. Romer and Luzzi were found unresponsive beside the overturned boat. Despite CPR and other lifesaving efforts, both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Tragic End

Luzzi, a mother of four, worked as a real estate agent in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. She was affiliated with Keller Williams and also ran her own business, The Jennifer Luzzi Group. Romer was the owner of Romer Beverage Company, a family-run beer wholesaler and beverage distributor based in nearby Kingman. He was also an accomplished boat racer.

A preliminary investigation found that the boat was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a large peninsula extending into the lake at about 7 p.m. on Saturday, according to police.

The force of the collision sent the vessel airborne before it came crashing back down upside down.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office has not identified any factors that may have contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not said how Romer and Luzzi knew each other.

Keller Williams announced Luzzi’s death in a Facebook post, describing her as “an integral and cherished member” of the company. “Beyond her professional contributions, her warmth, dedication, and vibrant presence touched the lives of so many within our community and left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her,” the post said.

“Jennifer will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.”

David Morse, CEO of Keller Williams Arizona Realty, also paid tribute to Luzzi, calling her “A staple in the community, a leader within our company, and most importantly a valued mother and friend.”

Former client Guy Elhanani similarly remembered Luzzi as an “extraordinary broker,” saying she helped him purchase two commercial storage facilities.

Tributes Pour In

In another tribute, Morse praised Luzzi’s impact beyond her career, highlighting the warmth and commitment she brought to the community. “Beyond her exceptional professionalism, she was a vibrant force in our community whose energy, dedication, and warmth made a lasting impression on everyone who crossed her path,” he wrote. “Our community has suffered an unimaginable loss.”

Romer was remembered by his friend Neville Agass as a businessman, pilot, race car driver, boater and devoted family man. Agass said their relationship initially developed through business before growing into a close friendship built around their mutual interests.

“He was a very passionate person at whatever he took on,” he wrote. “He fitted more into his lifetime than I would in five lifetimes.”

Romer, who appears to have had three children, was reportedly preparing to become a grandfather in the coming months, according to Absolute Speed and Marine, a boat shop he was known to visit.

“The best part of our day is when Chip would come by “making his rounds” almost every day. Whether his boats were in the shop or not he’d come by just to catch up and talk boats,” the shop’s owners wrote in an online tribute.
