Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis To Star In ‘Women Like Us’ Netflix Movie

Netflix has announced Women Like Us, a new comedy from Charles D. King’s Macro Film Studios and the Obamas’ Higher Ground, to star Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams, and Vivica A. Fox.

Shooting in New York City this fall, Women Like Us watches as a recently widowed woman is dragged to the Hamptons by her lifelong best friends and sister on what should have been her 30th anniversary. The weekend turns into a reckoning — with grief, with marriage, with the sisterhood that’s carried them throughout the years, and with the realization that dreams don’t have an expiration date.

Tasha Smith, a director with TV credits like Bel-Air and Harlem, takes the director’s chair here after helming ‘Tis So Sweet, an upcoming faith-based drama for Netflix starring Taraji P. Henson and Joey Bada$$. Smith is working from an original script by Ali Kinney (Ginny & GeorgiaLove Life), with writing from Tracy Oliver (Girls TripThe Blackening).

Women Like Us marks the first collaboration between Macro and Higher Ground, whose other upcoming projects with Netflix include the upcoming series All the Sinners Bleed and The Altruists, as well as an untitled Julianne Moore-led mother-daughter comedy.

James Lopez and Poppy Hanks are producing for Macro Film Studios, alongside Anikah McLaren and Mark R. Wright for Higher Ground, whose Michelle Obama will executive produce. King exec produces for Macro.

Most recently seen on shows like HacksGodfather of Harlem and Harlem, Goldberg is repped by WME.

Lewis is coming off roles in the animated hit GOAT and Netflix’s The Upshaws. She is repped by WME and Innovative Artists.

Recent credits for Williams include Velma and Girls5eva. She is repped by UTA and Untitled Entertainment.

Most recently seen in Amazon MGM’s revenge thriller Is God Is, as well as The Young and the Restless, Fox is repped by Innovative.

Smith is repped by IAG and Rain; Kinney by CAA and Artists First; and Oliver by CAA and Artists First.
