For Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, togetherness has never been measured in red carpets or photo opportunities.

“I have always had a clear boundary when it comes to my man and my kids,” Mendes—who shares daughters Esmeralda, 11, and Amada, 9, with Gosling—explained in April 2020, responding to an Instagram commenter who wondered why she didn’t post photos of her family. “I’ll talk about them of course, with limits, but I won’t post pictures of our daily life.”

Not to mention, she continued, since her kids were too young to “understand what posting their image really means…I won’t post their image until they’re old enough to give me consent. As far as Ryan and I, it just works for us this way, to stay private.”

Their children remain off-limits to this day, image-wise, and Mendes—who sports a “de Gosling” tattoo on her inner left wrist—hasn’t been coy about sharing just how good she’s got it behind the scenes with her leading man, who’s a producer on the new Prime Video movie Love of Your Life, now streaming.

Commenting on a clip of her longtime partner at the March 18 premiere of Project Hail Mary in New York set to Salt-N-Pepa‘s “Whatta Man,” she wrote, “This is beautiful. I agree ! And girls I’m telling you he is the most incredible partner and father. I love letting everyone know that. He’s beyond the beyond!”

Not least because they fell in love making The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011.
