Why Was BigXthaPlug Arrested? Dallas Rapper Faces DWI, Marijuana and Firearm Charges

Dallas rapper BigXthaPlug, whose real name is Xavier Landum, was arrested Friday, Aug. 21, in Allen, Texas, and booked into the Collin County Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated, marijuana possession and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to jail records and Allen police.

The arrest came just one day before Landum was scheduled to headline the Iowa State Fair Grandstand in Des Moines on Saturday, Aug. 22.

As of the latest available reports, authorities had not publicly released details explaining what led to the traffic stop or arrest.

Sam Rippamonti, an Allen Police Department public information officer, confirmed the arrest to CBS Texas but said police could not provide further details because the investigation remained active.

“At this time, we can confirm that an arrest has been made,” Rippamonti said.

What Charges Does BigXthaPlug Face?

According to the Collin County Jail records cited by FOX 4, Landum faces three charges for driving while intoxicated, possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The available records do not establish the circumstances behind the DWI allegation, whether the firearm was recovered during a traffic stop or another encounter, or what evidence led to the marijuana charge.

Those details had not been released by Allen police in the latest update.

The charges are allegations, and an arrest does not establish guilt.

Iowa State Fair Performance Now In Question

The timing of the arrest adds an immediate complication to Landum’s touring schedule.

He was scheduled to perform at the Iowa State Fair Grandstand at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, with XOLEX.

Ticketmaster continued to list the performance as scheduled, while Iowa media reported that the fair was seeking information about whether the arrest would affect the show.

Landum was also scheduled to appear at the Country Rising Festival in Winnipeg on Aug. 21. FOX 4 reported that the festival described his absence as being caused by a “personal emergency.”

That scheduling detail is significant because the arrest occurred on the same day as the Winnipeg appearance and less than 24 hours before his Iowa State Fair headline slot.

BigXthaPlug’s Previous Arrests

Friday’s arrest is not Landum’s first recent legal trouble.

CBS Texas reported that he was arrested in late August 2025 after Dallas police stopped a pickup truck near South Great Trinity Forest Way and U.S. 175.

Police said they found a firearm and a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle and alleged that Landum was prohibited from possessing a gun.

FOX 4 reported that Landum was also arrested in Arlington in February 2025 on a marijuana possession charge that was later dismissed.

He had previously faced drug and weapons-related charges in 2022.

The latest arrest occurred almost exactly one year after his 2025 arrest, adding another legal development as his music career continues to expand.

Who Is BigXthaPlug?

Landum is a Dallas native who broke through with songs including “Texas” and “Mmhmm.” FOX 4 reported that he has built a major streaming audience, with millions of monthly Spotify listeners.

The arrest comes as the rapper continues a busy 2026 touring schedule, making the status of his upcoming performances an important unanswered question.
