Why Was Patrick Clancy Missing From Lindsay Clancy Trial? Ex-FBI Agent Gets Slammed For Saying He’s ‘Unconcerned With Justice For His Children’
Just after photos surfaced online of Patrick Clancy’s appearance in New York with his new wife, Dr. Rachel Danis, former FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer blasted at Lindsay Clancy’s ex-husband saying that he “seems unconcerned with justice for his children.”
“I say this because he testified and then just left never to return. Now he is strolling the streets of New York with his new bride. I am shocked that he isn’t glued to this trial. I truly find it odd he isn’t in the court room. Anyone else?” Coffindaffer wrote on X.
Patrick, who testified in court during the Lindsay Clancy trial, was not present in court during the proceedings. Several people responding to Coffindaffer’s post pointed to the witness-sequestration rules and defended Patrick against the criticism.
One X user wrote: “Patrick Clancy testified early in the trial and was subject to the judge’s witness sequestration order barring him from the courtroom thereafter (with an exception only for Lindsay Clancy’s parents).”
“I do not find it odd at all. This verdict has no bearing on his life. It will not bring his children back to life. The worst has already happened,” one wrote. Another added “Everyone handles grief differently.”
Another said, “Witnesses in a case are not supposed to be in court except when they are testifying. He was a witness. So he was doing as he was told.”
Photos of Patrick and Rachel walking hand in hand in New York surfaced while the jury was deliberating in Lindsay’s case. The images prompted questions about why Patrick was not in court during the proceedings.
Why Was Patrick Clancy Not in Court?
Patrick was a witness in Lindsay Clancy’s trial and testified early in the proceedings. The judge had issued a sequestration order requiring witnesses to remain outside the courtroom while other witnesses testified, subject to specific exceptions.
Patrick’s testimony was among the emotional evidence presented during the trial. He described finding his three children after the January 2023 killings and also testified about Lindsay’s mental health in the months before their deaths.
As a result, his absence from the courtroom was not necessarily a decision to stay away from the trial. Several people responding to Coffindaffer’s post pointed to the witness-sequestration rules and defended Patrick against the criticism.
What Happened to Lindsay Clancy’s Trial?
The jury ultimately failed to reach a unanimous verdict after nearly 40 hours of deliberations, leading Judge William Sullivan to declare a mistrial.
The defense had also sought emergency intervention over concerns about a juror’s approach to reasonable doubt, but the emergency request was denied before the mistrial was finalized.
The case now moves into its next phase, with prosecutors potentially able to seek a retrial.
