Woman, 61, struck and killed by car while crossing NYC street just blocks away from her home

A 61-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car while crossing the street just a few blocks away from her home in Queens on Wednesday — the latest in a series of recent pedestrian deaths across the city.

Wang Jing was crossing Union Turnpike near the intersection with Main Street in Kew Gardens Hills around 8 a.m. when she was struck by a 2010 Honda Civic, police said.

The Honda Civic, driven by a 56-year-old woman, was making a left turn onto Union Turnpike when it hit Jing — who was crossing outside the marked crosswalk, according to the NYPD.

The impact threw her into the road, causing major head trauma, cops said.

First responders transported Jing — who lived just blocks away from where she was killed — to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver remained on the scene and reported no injuries.

The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating, and no arrests have been made.

Jing marks at least the fifth New Yorker to be killed by a car in the city since last week.

Three cyclists and one pedestrian were killed by hit-and-run drivers in separate incidents over five days.

“The tragic loss of three cyclists and a pedestrian, all killed in unsolved hit-and-runs within a five-day span, is heartbreaking,” Council Speaker Julie Menin and Majority Leader Shaun Abreu said in a joint statement. “Our thoughts are with their families and communities as they grieve these preventable deaths.”
