YMU Signs Krept, Hip-Hop Star, ‘Rap Game UK’ Host & Konan’s Partner
EXCLUSIVE: YMU has signed Krept, one half of hip-hop duo Krept & Konan.
The UK agency will rep Krept in talent management, commercial partnerships, brand strategy, digital, broadcast, live, publishing and intellectual property.
As one half of Krept & Konan, Krept, whose real name is Casyo Valentine Johnson, has been making music for more than a decade. Alongside DJ Target, Krept & Konan also hosted BBC Three’s The Rap Game UK, which just got cancelled after airing for six seasons. Based on A+E’s Lifetime format, it remains one of the network’s longest running shows.
Krept is a businessman and has launched the likes of natural baby skincare brand Nala’s Baby, which was inspired by his daughter. Krept and Konan also run Saveways, a supermarket tailored to serve the needs of Black, Asian and ethnic communities.
Krept said: “I’m proud to be joining YMU at such an exciting stage of my journey. Over the years I’ve been fortunate to build a career across music and business, but I feel like I’m only just getting started. Having a team that understands both creativity and entrepreneurship is incredibly important to me, and I’m looking forward to building the next chapter together.”
YMU boss Mary Bekhait called Krept “the definition of a modern entrepreneur” and said he “has an exceptional ability to build brands that resonate with audiences.”
YMU counts the likes of Ant and Dec and Graham Norton as clients. Earlier this month, we revealed the agency had signed women’s football manager and broadcaster Emma Hayes.
