Caitlin Clark produced the finest performance of her WNBA career on Friday night, scoring a career-high and Indiana Fever franchise-record 45 points while adding 10 assists to lead Indiana to a dramatic 110-107 comeback victory over the Seattle Storm at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The Fever star became the first player in WNBA history to record at least 40 points and 10 assists in the same game, surpassing the franchise’s previous single-game scoring record while also becoming the fastest player in league history to reach 200 career three-pointers. Clark accomplished the latter milestone in just 74 career games.
Indiana appeared headed for defeat after trailing by as many as 15 points during the third quarter as Seattle controlled much of the contest behind balanced scoring and disciplined defense. The Storm maintained their advantage entering the fourth quarter before Clark engineered another spectacular comeback.
Clark erupted for 16 points in the final period, repeatedly attacking the basket while knocking down timely perimeter shots. Her biggest moment came with 38.1 seconds remaining when she drilled her sixth three-pointer of the night to hand Indiana a 108-105 lead. She then converted two crucial free throws in the closing seconds to secure the Fever’s victory.
The third-year guard finished 11-of-18 from the field, including 6-of-10 from beyond the arc, while making 17 of her 19 free-throw attempts. Alongside her scoring, Clark orchestrated Indiana’s offense with 10 assists, accounting for a significant portion of the Fever’s 110 points.
Kelsey Mitchell provided the perfect complement with 30 points as the duo combined for a franchise-record 75 points, the highest-scoring partnership in a single game in Fever history. Mitchell’s offensive support proved equally important as Indiana chipped away at Seattle’s advantage before Clark took over in the closing minutes.
Seattle wasted strong performances from several of its veteran leaders. Skylar Diggins paced the Storm with 22 points, while Nneka Ogwumike added 20 points and Gabby Williams contributed 17. The visitors controlled the game for long stretches but struggled to contain Clark’s relentless fourth-quarter scoring barrage.
Clark’s latest milestone performance continues a remarkable start to her professional career. In addition to becoming the first player in league history to post a 40-point, 10-assist game, she eclipsed the previous Indiana Fever single-game scoring record with her 45-point outing and reached another career milestone by becoming the quickest player to make 200 three-pointers in WNBA history.
The comeback victory further strengthens Indiana’s momentum as the Fever continue their push in the WNBA standings, while Clark’s performance will be remembered as one of the greatest individual displays in franchise and league history.
