Faizon Brandon Injury: Did Tennessee QB Hurt His Shoulder Against Texas?

Faizon Brandon briefly left Tennessee’s game against No. 1 Texas on Saturday, Sept. 26, after appearing to injure his right shoulder, but the freshman quarterback later returned to the field.

The injury occurred in the second quarter at Neyland Stadium when Brandon took off on a designed quarterback run and took a hit on the play. Trainers examined his right shoulder area before he headed to the medical tent.

What Happened To Faizon Brandon?

Brandon was injured during Tennessee’s first drive of the second quarter against Texas. After the play, he remained on the ground before getting up and appearing to favor his right shoulder.

On3 reported that Brandon suffered an apparent upper-body injury after landing awkwardly and went to the medical tent for evaluation.

The Tennessee quarterback was subsequently replaced by George MacIntyre while he was being evaluated.

The right shoulder appeared to be the area of concern, but no specific diagnosis had been announced. The available reports however did not specify its severity.

Brandon returned to the game after leaving for evaluation, according to On3 and other reports from Neyland Stadium.

Brandon’s Return Eases Immediate Concern

Brandon entered the Texas matchup as Tennessee’s starting quarterback after opening the season with three victories. Through the first three games, he had completed 41 of 64 passes for 552 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions.

He also produced a strong performance in Tennessee’s 42-9 win over Kennesaw State on Sept. 19, completing 18 of 26 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown while adding a rushing score.

Brandon was making his first SEC start against Texas when he was forced to leave temporarily. Tennessee entered the contest 3-0, while Texas was also unbeaten. The game began at noon ET at Neyland Stadium.
