Why Did Gisele Bundchen Want Divorce? Tom Brady Made 11-Day Effort to Save Marriage but Supermodel Only Believed in Astrology

Tom Brady reportedly made an 11-day final effort to repair his troubled marriage to Gisele Bundchen, just months before the couple ultimately divorced, according to a new book. The NFL icon was excused to miss the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 2022 training camp so he could fly to a private Bahamas resort and spend time with his then-wife, as their 13-year marriage appeared close to falling apart.

However, Bundchen left Brady even after his last-ditch efforts. “I’ve got to take care of some personal things,” Brady, 49, reportedly told coach Clyde Christensen, according to the upcoming biography “Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness,” via The Daily Mail.

“Tom didn’t know what the heck was going on,” an assistant coach recalled. “And we didn’t know if he was ever coming back.” Brady returned to Tampa 11 days later, but Christensen said it was clear that the trip had done little to mend the problems in his marriage.

“Tom was an empty shell of who he was when he got back,” Christensen said. “There was no joy. Everything was hard work.”

During that turbulent stretch, Brady also appeared noticeably thinner, with Anderson writing that some coaches and teammates privately said he looked like a cancer patient.

The seven-time Super Bowl winner’s marriage had allegedly been under pressure for years, as Bündchen, 46, reportedly urged him to leave football behind and devote more time to their family.

Bündchen reportedly ran onto the field after Brady’s New England Patriots’ win over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI in 2017 and, according to Anderson, asked him, “Would now be the perfect time to retire?”

Bündchen later brought up retirement again that same day, but Brady purportedly replied, “Too bad, babe. I’m having too much fun right now.”

Next year, Bündchen again pressed Brady to consider retirement after the Patriots’ Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, expressing her feelings in an emotional letter. “She needed him to be present when he was at home, not responding to text messages on his constantly buzzing cell phone or replaying a game in his mind,” Anderson writes.

“She needed more help with the kids. She needed the chance to sleep in just a few days a week. She needed more time for her own career.”

Bündchen, who was among the world’s highest-profile models, stepped back from her career to care for their two children, Benjamin, 16, and Vivian, 13. She also helped raise Brady’s son Jack, 19, from his previous relationship with Bridget Moynahan.

Bündchen ultimately decided to end the marriage after consulting an astrology book, according to Anderson. “One day, Gisele, who is really into astrology, basically looked into the stars and told Tom, ‘We’re not compatible,'” an insider close to Brady told Lars Anderson. “And just like that she was done.”

After tying the knot in 2009, the couple confirmed their divorce on Oct. 28, 2022, saying their children remained their main priority. “We have grown apart and while it is, of course, difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and only wish the best for Tom always,” the model said in an Instagram post at the time.

Bündchen married jujitsu instructor Joaquim Valente in December 2025, and the couple now have a 1-year-old son together.

Brady has since been romantically linked to model Irina Shayk as well as internet personality Alix Earle.
