Trump says he’ll become last GOP president unless filibuster terminated
President Donald Trump has said that he will be the last Republican president unless the filibuster is terminated.
“Anybody who doesn’t want to Terminate the Filibuster is a FOOL, a very stupid one, at that!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. He said that the “Dumocrats will end it within minutes of taking office, and then rapidly proceed to destroy our Country.”
“The Republican Party will never win another Election. I will, sadly, be the last Republican President,” he wrote. “The Republican Party isn’t at stake, our Country is. TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, AND IMMEDIATELY APPROVE THE SAVE AMERICA ACT. GOD BLESS THE U.S.A. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Trump has previously called for the termination of the filibuster, receiving backing from some other Republicans. The U.S. Senate defines a filibuster as “action designed to prolong debate and delay or prevent a vote on a bill, resolution, amendment, or other debatable question”.
Senators can end a filibuster with a three-fifths, or 60 vote, majority. Introducing a ban would make it easier for Republicans, with a 53-47 majority, to push through their policies.
This is a developing story. More to follow.
